Today’s teenagers can be sullen, demanding and, dare we say bratty, and as a parent of teens myself, I can identify with what you may be going through. Put it this way – an vacation with a teenager (or teenagers) can potentially turn out to be like a cross between an adventure movie and a disaster movie. Because they may be prone to doing so beyond your control or theirs if you do not choose the right destination for your big getaway. This will help prevent boredom, an unhappy teen and happy traveling for everyone.
When selecting destinations for your holidays, choosing a destination focusing on teens requires you to consider you child’s interests, likes and dislikes. Check for all the pertinent information on each destination – how are the facilities, and are there any special perks or fun activities? Keep your child’s enjoyment above yours – you may enjoy golf but your teen may consider it the epitome of “uncool.”
Generally speaking, amusement parks or theme parks are most popular with children, and teenagers can still find amusement in these places. Some amusement parks can be completed in one day, but there are several amusement park resorts that around which an entire vacation can revolve. There are rafting tours available all throughout the United States, though West Virginia, Utah, Idaho and Colorado are some of the more poplar locations. If you select white water rafting, it is important to consider your child’s level of rafting experience, or rather his or her lack of experience. A guided tour is best for inexperienced rafters, including yourself.
Cruise ships are usually thought of as the epitome of a boring vacation for teenagers, but if you look carefully, a lot of them cater to families with teens. Cruise ships travel all around the world but are most popular for travels to Europe and the Caribbean. Your average cruise will also offer teen activities aplenty, from video games to movies, rock climbing, dancing, swimming and the like. Be sure to check what amenities and activities the cruise ship offers before making your reservation.
We cannot underscore the importance of factoring in your teenager’s preferences. Don’t shut them out from your decision-making – allow them to plan your vacation as well. Do not think of this as giving them too much free reign – after all, you want them to enjoy the trip as much as you do. This will be time well spent in many ways.
