South Africa: Five great places to see
South Africa is an incredible country. With it’s lovely mix of beaches, mountains, wildlife and 2500km of incredible coastline it’s no wonder it’s such a popular travel destination. Like any country of South Africa’s size, travelling in South Africa can be tricky. To help you plan, here are the top five places to visit in South Africa:
1.Table Mountain – When here you’ll want to visit the famous Table Mountain. It’s a flat topped mountain overlooking Cape Town. There are a couple options for getting to the top; you can either take a cable car or alternatively the more adventurous of you can hike to the top. Once at the summit the views are spectacular. Also look out for the lovely wildlife and playful monkeys.
2. The Garden Route – The Garden Route is a very scenic stretch on the south-eastern coast of South Africa. It starts at Mossel Bay and finishes at Storms River, there are various excellent stop offs. Also here are endangered whales and other marine and wildlife. As well as the marine life there are almost 300 species of beautiful multi-coloured birds. Hire an open top car to make the most of the amazing views.
3. Knsyna – When taking the Garden Route make sure you stop off at the lovely town of Knsyna. Many people love this gorgeous relaxed town located by the sea and when here you’ll see why. This place is geared up for a perfect break for those looking to have fun or just soak up the amazing scenery. Knsyna also attracts local artists giving the place a real bohemian feel. Try out the local lagoon for the popular pastime of ‘wave jumping.’
4. Durban – Durban is a large city in South Africa but it’s unbelievable coastline makes this an attractive stop. The length of glorious surfer filled beaches are otherwise known as ‘The Golden Mile.’ The main hub of the city is the promenade where you will find a good range of various hotels, pubs, restaurants, shops and the popular Marine World Aquarium.
5. Soweto – Soweto is an important educating sight in South Africa. A large part of the area is shanty town and the city is split into three different areas the rich, middle and poor. You’ll have to be careful here but the safer option is to take an official guided tour which will give you a real insight into everyday life.
