There are numerous budget hotels, backpackers hostels, and other cheap accommodations available in the Central Business District (CBD) of Brisbane. The Explorers Inn, in Turbot Street in the CBD, is an affordable and friendly hotel, rated with three stars. It is close to good areas for shopping, nightlife and restaurants and cafes, and many central Brisbane attractions (eg Chinatown, Eagle Street Pier and Southbank Beach and Parklands) are within twenty minutes walk. Accommodation at the Explorers Inn is in double and twin rooms, triples and family rooms (sleep 4).
The family rooms at the Explorers Inn accommodate four guests, in queen bed plus a bunk bed. All rooms here are air conditioned with ensuite toilet and shower room. Rooms have tea/coffee making facility, and a small fridge. Some rooms, including family rooms, have large screen TV/built-in DVD player. Guests also have use of wireless internet (prepaid) within the hotel.
The hotel’s restaurant is open every day for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are also available except at weekends. The hotel also has guest laundry facilities, and offers a same day service for dry-cleaning (only on weekdays). The reception services include tour desk, photocopying and fax machines.
Brisbane’s newest backpackers hostel, and the closest one to Brisbane Travel Centre, is the Cloud 9 Backpackers hostel. Brisbane Travel Centre (or Roma Street Station) is the main point at which budget travellers arrive in town.
Cloud 9 guests either stay in dorms, or in single and twin rooms. Rooms either are air conditioned, or have a ceiling cooling fan. The Backpackers bar at Cloud 9 is lively and friendly, with different events every night. The hostel is also close to many of the best nightlife and cafe sectors of the city.
Cloud 9′s guest facilities include a convenience store, modern kitchen and laundromat, and a twenty four hour broadband connected internet lounge. From Cloud 9′s roof deck residents have excellent views over the city and river.
Brisbane City Backpackers is also on Upper Roma Street, and can therefore by reached on foot from the Brisbane Travel Centre. This is a pleasant hostel, with a friendly bar, and a bistro type cafe. Guests here benefit from a completely free to use wireless internet lounge, and five free films per day in the movie theatre. There is also a job club to help find work in Australia.
Brisbane City Backpackers is located in the centre of Brisbane, near the main bus and train station. It is ten minutes walk to Queen Street Mall, Coles Supermarket is just across the road for more day to day needs. Accommodation here is in singles, twins and doubles, or in dormitory accommodation. For security reasons guests should have passport or other official (or government) photo ID. Travellers staying in dorm accommodation must have a full sized travellers backpack. No similar restriction on luggage for other types of rooms.
