Wilmington is a major population center in the Delaware Valley metropolitan area, and the largest city in the state of Delaware. It is only 25 miles from Philadelphia, and can be reached by train (SEPTA local service from Philly), or via the I-95, or I-295 (Philadelphia southern bypass route). It is about 20 minutes ride from Philadelphia International Airport.
Although the transportation links give Wilmington something of the character of a satellite city to Pennsylvania, the city has a long and significant history as the most important Delaware city. Nine districts in the city are classed as Historic Districts. These include Quaker Hill, founded by Quakers William Shipley and Thomas West in the eighteenth century. The Friends Meeting House burial ground contains the remains of the abolition campaigner Thomas Garret, and John Dickinson, one of the signatories to the US Constitution.

As well as the Riverfront Blues there are two other music festivals held in the town: the Peoples’ Festival, and the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival. The annual Peoples’ Festival is a Bob Marley tribute festival. In addition Cityfest (organizers of the Blues Festival), also promote the Fringe Festival, a five day event in October, featuring experimental and unconventional art.
Bob Marley lived in Wilmington at one time, and the tribute event has been held on Wilmington Riverfront since 1994. The event features Reggae and World Beat artists, and original music in addition to covers of classic tunes by Bob Marley and the Wailers.
