Advantages Of Getting GPS Units
Me and my husband adore hiking in this very breathtaking location. Even mentioning the name sets us in an exciting state of letting loose and not be bothered by all the anxieties in life. This location is so breathtaking that we become like the off-springs of nature’s wild, dashing next to the creeks that zigzag its way down into the canyon, the prominent Wild Horse Canyon that is.
You can see mosses and a variety of growing little species clumping alongside the hiking trail. It has a enormous waterfall at the peak of the trail, it’s water flows into the canyon. Usually it takes about an hour to reach the top. We would trek our way down the ravine when the climate is not humid though it is not easy because of the even more sudden drop below. It happened a year before during spring, we went trekking into the canyon on that beautiful morning. I brought for us something to eat for lunch and other things into our backpacks, even a camera.
At the start of the hiking path, I observed a stick was leaning up against one of the huge pine trees along the way. I thought to myself, what a neat and perfect walking stick, so I grabbed it on the way into the trail. It was only the urge feeling that I had to use the stick and it would be my first. We hiked around streams flowing pretty full since we had a lot of spring rain. We were lucky that the weather that day was doing well for us. We had just about reached the bottom or as it were, the top of the waterfall. My husband had gone ahead and already crossed the little pool at the shallowest part. The first cardinal rule when hiking is to look at your steps. At that point, I forgot to do that as I was about to get across. It was a tough fall. I had placed my foot on a rock when I passed through and it caught me off-balance because I was looking above. The sprain in my ankle was so severe that I could feel the ache piercing. I picked myself up and rested for a moment. Upon pondering, I understood we were in a sort of a predicament – how are we going to mount out with an injured ankle? Since we were at the bottom deep of the canyon, my husband and I were conscious that our cell phones would not get a signal. Fantastic. We had to take the quickest way to the road so that my injury could be tended immediately so we knew which path to go since we had gotten accustomed to the place. After I talked my husband into heading for the car while I took the other way to the road, we scaled up. In any case, I had my walking stick to aid me, credited to the person who was nice enough to leave it behind. I could not have gotten out not for that stick that aided me. At that time, I never thought that I was in a really tight situation. To conclude what happened that day, I got an ankle that was seriously sprained that led me to use crutches for quite a few weeks.
So, first rule of hiking safety is to watch where you are going and be aware at all times of your surroundings. Carry a small first aid kit, water and a little snack. Wear a good pair of hiking boots (I think this really saved my ankle from being broken). Think, think, think before you step. A rock or a tree root, loose dirt, could cause a life threatening injury if you were to trip and tumble downhill.
Stepping on snakes can be prevented once you are conscious of your steps. Always hike with a buddy, take breaks to rest and pace yourself. Anyway, with the both of you taking breaks during intervals, it allows you to actually observe your environment and appreciate its beauty. Stay on the trail and don’t venture off into the wild places unless you absolutely know what you are doing. Always communicate with the person you are with whenever you are hiking so that you won’t get lost. Don’t fill your backpack too full – just take what is necessary and ‘just in case’ items like a small flashlight, maybe a sweater, and don’t forget to check the weather. Be prepared and take your rain jacket, preferably the light one, with you if you know that there is a likelihood of a downpour.
Oh – and don’t forget the walking stick!
